Chichen-Itza

On our first full day in Cancun we took a day trip to Chichen-Itza, the Mayan pyramids in the middle of the jungle. The site is supposedly a candidate in the competition to decide the new seven wonders of the world. What’s that all about? If it didn’t make the original list, I don’t see why it would make it this time round.
Furthermore, the Mayans used to play a basketball variant whereby the winner would be given the ‘honour’ of being sacrificed to the gods. Now that just goes against everything we know about natural selection (and general decency to boot). No wonder they couldn’t fight off a few invading tribes! On account of this, we urge you not to vote for their silly pyramids.
Still, it is very impressive to think they made such a large amount of cement to please their gods. It just shouldn’t have been their top priority, it turned out. We think more resources should have been allocated to weapons development.

Great photo. I’d like to suggest that we mandate JD to go one better than the simple “beach” at his previous abode and adorn the back garden of his new place with a full-on Mayan temple. Concrete-tastic - now that’s sun worship.

The builders are in the back garden as I type. I will call them this afternoon and text through a picture of Chichen-Itza. I’d imagine it will ready in time for the first annual BBQ (or Grill) at the beginning of July.
